June will mark the one-year anniversary of the renaming of the NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi’s Burn Intensive Care Unit for the late Dr. Stanley M. Levenson, a pioneer in the care and treatment of burns.

“It is a year since the ceremony honoring Dr. Levenson’s contributions to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi and the burn service, in particular, took place,” said Dr. Bruce Greenstein, director of the Burn Intensive Care Unit. “The burn ICU was renamed the Stanley M. Levenson Burn Intensive Care Unit. All of the burn unit’s staff has continually honored his memory by their collegial and collaborative efforts to provide caring and quality care to a diverse spectrum of critically ill patients with burn and smoke inhalation, frostbite injuries, snakebites and dermatological disorders.”

Dr. Levenson came to Jacobi in 1961 with a distinguished career in treating and researching burn patients. While at Jacobi, he took a leading role in establishing the burn unit, and developing a superior standard of care for critically injured burn victims. In addition, Dr. Levenson served as vice chairman of the Department of Surgery, and as a Distinguished University Professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
