PAGNY Dr. Aracelis Fernandez has been named Associate Chair in the Department of Pediatrics at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem. After she received her medical degree, cum laude, from Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra in Santiago, Dominican Republic, she completed her internship and residency at The Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center in New York. Dr. Fernandez completed a Fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases and HIV in the Department of Pediatrics at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Cornell University, New York.

Dr. Fernandez has held several teaching positions and currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. She has been appointed to the staff of several hospitals, most notably as an Attending Physician at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Medical Center.

She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics/Pediatric Infectious Diseases and is certified by the American Academy of HIV Medicine. Dr. Fernandez is a member of several professional societies including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society and the Infectious Diseases Society of America. She has received numerous honors and awards and been published in several peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Fernandez is an active member of national and international medical society committees and has served as a member of the board and faculty, and as co-director of several university and hospital programs. Dr. Fernandez has applied for and received several grants from the Ryan White foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the New York State Department of Health directed towards the Adolescent AIDS Program at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She has presented at several international and local conferences on highly relevant topics such as HIV, STDs and infectious diseases.
