Overview

Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) has an opportunity for a Technologist Supervisor at Jacobi Medical Center/North Central Bronx Hospital. The Hospitals are part of the NYC Health + Hospitals System (NYCHHC). Jacobi is a 457-bed, Level I Trauma Center and NCB has 213 licensed beds.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of an attending Orthopaedic surgeon, the Orthopaedic technologist participates in patient care, applies casts and splints, educates patients on their care, maintains the inventory of the Orthopaedic supplies, educates support staff, participates in the resident teaching curriculum and provides X-rays.

 

 

  • Supervise and coordinate technicians, assisting when necessary in patient management.
  • Attends department rounds, conference and clinics as assigned and participates in the equipment in-service activities of technicians, residents, physician assistants and attending’s. Assist in OR as needed.
  • Makes inpatient rounds as necessary to verify the quality of splints and casts and inspect in soft tissue for pressure points.
  • Removal of staples and sutures.
  • EX/FIX removal in out-patient clinic setting.
  • Wound care as directed by the Attending, Physician Assistant and Resident.
  • Instructs patients in the proper care of their casts and splints.
  • Teach patients to use walking aids, such as canes and crutches and fits and adjusts equipment as necessary. Under the guidance of surgeons, repairs, maintains and adjusts casting material during treatment regimen as necessary for patient safety and comfort. Assesses cast material needs and application techniques for patient. Measures and fits patients for hinged brace, orders and documents measurements and results.
  • Participates in resident teaching and curriculum with emphasis on the correct application of casts and splints.
  • Maintain and update the inventory of the Orthopaedic supplies for the clinic and for use in the ED and ward unit.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Minimal 2 years’ experience as an Orthopaedeic Technician in the health care setting and certification as Radiology Technologist.
  • Certified by the National Board of Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists.
