Overview

Employed by PAGNY for NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, located in the Bronx, accommodates more than 325,000 outpatient visits, more than 100,000 emergency room visits and more than 20,000 inpatient admissions annually. The hospital is renowned for The Trauma Center, staffed to treat any traumatic injury or illness, the fully accredited Breast Health Center, and The Burn Center, with more than 40 years of work in burn care. The hospital also serves patients of many other needs. The hospital maintains an academic affiliation with Albert Einstein Medical College. The Department of Psychiatry has 89 adult acute inpatient beds, a CPEP, a Consultation-Liaison Service, an Adult Ambulatory Practice, and a Community-Based Assertive Community Treatment Program. The department employs evidenced-based best practices in providing the highest quality care to its patients, in a patient-centered approach that is respectful of their individuality, culture, and community.

Responsibilities

Our Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) is a state of the art emergency psychiatry service.  The CPEP provides a spectrum of multidisciplinary services designed to meet the needs of our diverse clientele in the most effective and least restrictive manner possible.  Our 11,000 square-foot modern service includes separate pediatric and adult waiting areas, patient interview rooms, a patient holding area, and six extended observation beds.  The Jacobi CPEP has approximately 700 registrations per month, of which over 200 are children. We also have an embedded Mobile Crisis Team that makes up to 75 visits per month.

The successful candidate will not only provide safe, comprehensive clinical care, but will have the opportunity to lead our robust Child Crisis Team, based in our CPEP. They will also have an opportunity to develop and oversee the clinical and administrative activities of a Child Telepsychiatry Service.

  • Participation in all activities related to clinical care and documentation of care, performance improvement, regulatory compliance, and student supervision, education & training
  • Teaching and supervision of psychiatry residents, psychologists, psychology interns, medical students as well as significant teaching of residents from all other specialties. He/she will participate in ethics meetings, court hearings, and multidisciplinary rounds.
  • Direct supervision of Psychologists, Social Workers, Psychiatric PA staff and Medical Students
  • Participate in our innovative integrative care activities

 

Qualifications

  • Board certified in Adult Psychiatry (Or Board Eligible & within 5 years of completing residency training)
  • Completion of an approved  psychiatry residency training program
  • Eligible for NYS license and DEA
  • ABPN certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Psychiatric ER or CPEP experience
  • Administrative/leadership experience
  • Superior clinical, Diagnostic, interpersonal/communication and team-building skills.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Ability to make sound and timely triage, treatment, and disposition decisions
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple disciplines in the evaluation and care of patients
