Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief of Radiology to lead our radiology department and drive excellence in patient care, innovation, and team collaboration. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of clinical expertise, leadership, and strategic vision within the field of radiology. The Chief formulates and institutes effective strategies and policies that focus on cost-effective health care services, ensuring optimal utilization of resources and service delivery. Assesses and develops and implements plans for departmental safety and training guidelines, departmental operations and processes, leading to improved patient experience, outcomes, volume and revenue.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the overall day-to-day clinical operations of the departments with oversight of all clinical and non-clinical staff and is accountable for operational excellence and delivery of quality services.
  • Leadership and Strategy: Provide visionary leadership to the radiology department, setting strategic goals, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Collaborate with senior management to align radiology services with the overall healthcare facility’s mission and goals. Develop and implement strategies to enhance patient care quality, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Clinical Excellence: Oversee and participate in the interpretation of radiological images, ensuring accurate diagnoses and timely reporting. Stay updated with advancements in radiology technology, techniques, and research to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care. Offer expert consultation to referring physicians and healthcare teams to aid in clinical decision-making.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Ensure adherence to relevant regulations, standards, and guidelines for radiology services. Develop and implement quality assurance programs to monitor and improve the accuracy and reliability of radiological interpretations. Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to maintain accreditation and certifications related to radiology services.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of the department’s activities and departmental quality assurance programs to ensure compliance with all required protocols and regulations. Establishes annual goals, identifies current problems affecting the quality and timeliness of service, and leads service and process improvement initiatives utilizing cost-effective solutions and enhancements.
  • Partners with senior leadership, clinical staff, and other key stakeholders to define the clinical and operational plan for the department ensuring alignment with the System’s mission, values strategic pillars and business goals. Identifies and meets staffing needs to support continuity of care and delivery of high-quality service
  • Conducts ongoing review of existing all diagnostic imaging modalities, patient transport and biomed policies and standard operating procedures to identify gaps or discrepancies and implement revisions, as necessary, to support quality control and risk management.
  • Oversee the departmental safety data and presents key findings to the Radiation Safety Officer and other appropriate parties and collaborates with staff to create strategies and recommendations for interventions and appropriate control measures.
  • Oversee patient safety incidents and makes reports to the appropriate local, state, and federal public health and regulatory agencies. Makes recommendations for action plans for the prevention of accidents and to determine containment and control measures to foster a culture of safety for patients, staff and visitors.
  • Actively leads in the development and management of the fiscal year budget and allocation of funds. Ensures operations run within budgetary guidelines, reviews budget requests for radiology, radiotherapy, all imaging modalities, biomed, and patient transport services and monitors all expenses and purchases.
  • Team Management: Lead and manage a team of radiologists, radiologic technologists, and support staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. Mentor and develop staff members through training, feedback, and performance evaluations. Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development among department members.
  • Manages staffing needs and provides orientation, training, and guidance to staff to support the continuity of care. Oversees performance assessment and management, participates in selection and disciplinary activities and works with Labor Relations to enforce H+H policies. Ensures and maintains accurate and current documentation regarding staff licensure and credentials and keeps complete and accurate documentation.
  • Oversees processes governing the maintenance of medical equipment, instruments, supplies and space/design. Ensures equipment needs are met, participates in the selection of new equipment, and follows safety and quality management standards
  • Serves as principal advisor and key resource to senior leadership, clinical staff and other appropriate parties on matters pertaining to radiologic services and handles departmental communications to internal and external parties managing the flow of information into and out of the department, including all relative informatics systems in place.
  • Technology and Innovation: Evaluate and implement new radiology technologies and equipment to enhance diagnostic capabilities and operational efficiency. Explore and integrate innovative practices, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, to optimize radiology workflows.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with other clinical departments to facilitate interdisciplinary patient care and consultation. Communicate effectively with referring physicians and healthcare providers to ensure seamless patient management.
  • Ensures adequate and appropriate education and information is provided on radiation safety protocols and prevention methods to clinical and nonclinical staff, community members, patients and caregivers in line with governing agencies/bodies.
  • Participates in internal/external quality assurance/performance improvement (QA/PI) activities and programs, training, and relevant health care events, as required.
  • Ensures ongoing compliance and maintenance of the NYC Health + Hospitals policies and procedures with national standards and other applicable external regulatory requirements, guidelines and accreditation authorities as well as safety and quality management standards.
  • Performs other related duties, as directed
  • Position is required to cover multiple sites and required to be on-site

Qualifications

  • Medical degree (MD or DO)
  • Board certification in Radiology.
  • Active medical license and eligibility for medical practice in the state.
  • Proven experience as a radiologist with a track record of clinical excellence.
  • Previous leadership or administrative experience within a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of radiology technology, techniques, and best practices.
