Mentorship and Innovation: Dr. Nehad Shabarek's Leadership Journey at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln

At NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, leadership isn't just about guiding the present; it's about shaping the future of healthcare. Nehad Shabarek, M.D., F.A.C.P., embodies this ethos as the Internal Medicine Residency Program Director, a role he has held with distinction since 2016.
Dr. Shabarek's journey with NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln began in 1991. As a pioneering Hospitalist in NYC, he quickly became involved in educating and mentoring residents, laying the groundwork for his impactful career in medical education. His commitment to advancing resident education and wellness has been unwavering, leading to his pivotal roles as Associate Program Director in 2006 and ultimately as Program Director in 2016.
“Mentoring our residents allows me to share my experiences, fostering a strong sense of value and connection between us,” Dr. Shabarek shares. “Mentoring relationships often open doors to broader professional networks and gives individuals a sense of cohesive and collaborative work environment.”
Instrumental in developing the Simulation Center at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in 2011, Dr. Shabarek has enhanced experiential learning for residents in a simulated healthcare environment. His academic affiliations as Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Cornell University, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at New York Medical College, and Assistant Professor of Medicine at St. George’s University underscore his dedication to academic excellence and collaboration.
Looking ahead, Dr. Shabarek remains steadfast in his commitment to advancing medical education and preparing the next generation of healthcare leaders. His goals include expanding educational initiatives, further integrating technology into residency training, and continuing to prioritize resident wellness.
