Gastroenterologists provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for patients with digestive and gastrointestinal diseases and disorders. They play a key role in diagnosing complex conditions, developing individualized treatment plans, and delivering both medical and procedural interventions. Clinical Responsibilities

Deliver direct inpatient and outpatient gastrointestinal care
Prescribe and administer medications and treatments
Perform diagnostic tests (e.g., blood tests, stool tests, imaging) to identify causes of symptoms
Provide care for patients with chronic diseases (e.g., diabetes, hypertension) to manage complications
Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, diet, and nutrition; refer to dietitians as appropriate
Maintain accurate medical records, ensure confidentiality, and comply with regulatory standards

Procedural Expertise

Perform a wide range of endoscopic procedures, including:
- Colonoscopies, sigmoidoscopies, gastroscopies, upper endoscopies, duodenoscopies
- Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) diagnostic and therapeutic and Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS/FNA)
- Capsule endoscopy and advanced endoscopic techniques
- Surgery for polyp removal or other abnormalities in the colon/rectum
