Women in Medicine Month Feature: Dr. Nwankpa

In honor of the American Medical Association’s Women in Medicine Month, PAGNY celebrates Dr. Ngozi Nwankpa, Vice Chairperson and Director of Quality Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi.

Read about Dr. Nwankpa’s childhood interest in medicine, her choice to specialize in obstetrics and gynecology, and why she chose PAGNY :

“I am the daughter of a father who is a physician and a mother who was a labor and delivery nurse and so healthcare was somewhat of a natural inclination for me. As an undergraduate student, for one of my community health courses, I worked with a nurse practitioner who supervised a women’s sexually transmitted disease clinic in the South Bronx. This experience brought me into the lives of women patients and clients who sought services at the clinic. I had many conversations with patrons of that clinic centered around health education and self-empowerment and was fulfilled by the many ‘a-ha’ moments I witnessed women have. This amazing summer course was the beginning of my career quest in women’s health specifically. The education and empowerment that I get to be a part of in the patient exam room today is still just as gratifying!”

Dr. Nwankpa’s commitment to nurturing women’s health exemplifies PAGNY’s mission to deliver exceptional patient-centered care to vulnerable communities in New York City. Thank you, Dr. Nwankpa, for educating and empowering your patients with your expertise and care!
