We would like to extend a Happy New Year and best wishes to everyone in the PAGNY family as we move into 2017. The last year has been very successful for PAGNY and the nearly 3,500 physicians and healthcare providers in the PAGNY family. We continue to grow and recruit new members who provide essential healthcare services to some of the most diverse communities in New York City.
Most importantly, PAGNY has demonstrated that it is a vital part of the City’s medical community, providing stability and leadership in a very challenging time for the healthcare industry. In April, we signed a five-year $2.5 billion contract with our partner, New York City Health + Hospitals, that will run through June, 2020 — the longest NYC H+H contract in PAGNY’s short history. This agreement reflects the confidence that the City’s leaders have in PAGNY’s ability to serve the healthcare needs of so many New Yorkers.
Another reflection of that confidence came when NYC H+H last year asked PAGNY to provide comprehensive medical and mental health services to inmates in the City’s correctional facilities. This agreement enabled PAGNY to add 715 new providers to the PAGNY family.
Because of PAGNY’s growing reputation, we were able to recruit 221 new healthcare professionals in 2016, including 21 senior level positions, 95 physicians and 105 physician assistants, as well as other service providers. In all, the PAGNY family is now close to 3,500 professionals — a 23.5 percent increase over 2015.
As we grow, PAGNY professionals continue to focus on the quality of their performance. As a result, the financial incentives related to the Performance Indicators increased nearly 36 percent in 2016, to $7.5 million. Additionally, NYC H+H’s Accountable Care Organization, of which we are the largest member, distributed among our Primary Care Providers Medicare savings totaling $1.2 million.
Most impressive were this year’s Faculty Plans distributions, which totaled $17.5 million.
We are also very proud of our new PAGNY Research and Education Committee, which was created in 2016 under the leadership of its chairman, Dr. Balavenkatesh Kanna. The Committee’s first event, PAGNY’s First Annual Research Day, was a major success. Held May 4th at the New York Academy of Medicine, the event featured 47 research projects by PAGNY medical professionals; four of the projects were chosen for oral presentations. Kudos to all who participated.
We also continued our very successful co-branding campaign with each PAGNY-affiliated facility, which is designed to feature our physicians and the excellent care they provide. We co-branded our two organizations through banners and plaques placed in highly trafficked locations to promote our partnership.
PAGNY also celebrated its first Physician Leadership Program in 2016. Fourteen physicians at Jacobi and North Central Bronx participated in a rigorous Leadership Development curriculum, which included improving Performance Indicators at the two hospitals — reducing cycle time for patients admitted to the Emergency Department and increasing patient satisfaction. This program will be expanded to other PAGNY-affiliated hospitals in the New Year.
The Board of Directors held a very enriching retreat in November that focused on the transformation of healthcare. The event featured lectures by Dr. Herminia Palacio, Deputy Mayor of Health and Human Services; Dr. Rafael Grossmann, a Surgeon and Healthcare Futurist; and Dr. Andrew Brotman, Senior Vice President and Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs and Strategy and Chief Clinical Officer at NYU Langone Medical Center.
We are very proud of the accomplishments PAGNY achieved in 2016 and accolades are due to each and every one one of you — the dedicated physicians and healthcare providers of PAGNY. We know how hard you all work to provide high quality healthcare to your patients and to make a significant difference in the health of our communities.
Again, thank you for your tireless dedication to PAGNY’s mission as we look forward to a dynamic 2017.
We wish you and your families a festive holiday season and a healthy and happy New Year.
