As we move into 2016, we would like to extend our best wishes to everyone in the PAGNY family for a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. The past 12 months have been extraordinarily productive for PAGNY and our 3,000 talented physicians and health professionals. Because of our success, we continue to grow and expand our mission as an integral part of New York City’s health care system.
In 2015, we recruited 218 new healthcare professionals to PAGNY, a 23 percent increase over 2014. The new members included 22 senior level positions (chiefs and directors of service), 101 physicians, 47 physician extenders and 48 other service providers. We also strengthened our relationship with NYC Health + Hospitals (NYC H+H).
As part of our growing relationship with the city, NYC H+H in October asked PAGNY to provide comprehensive medical and mental health services to inmates in the city’s correctional system. As a result, beginning on January 1, PAGNY will add more than 900 new health care providers, giving us the opportunity to improve the quality of care for inmates, develop training programs and engage in new and exciting research.
We were also proud to become a partner with the Global Educational Exchange in Medicine and the Health Professions (GEMx) in a project of the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates that promotes educational exchanges in medicine and the health professions.
This past year we also formed the PAGNY Research and Education Foundation to advance our clinical research mission. The Foundation will enable PAGNY to submit grant applications for National Institutes of Health and for commercial funding of patient care studies, as well as for empirical research on clinician behaviors and practices.
Finally, PAGNY improved its ability to communicate with you, our PAGNY members, through the creation of The PAGNY Advance. This new monthly e-newsletter celebrates our many accomplishments and keeps you informed about what your colleagues are doing to advance medicine and improve the quality of care for our patients.
We are both very proud of the progress PAGNY made in 2015. We thank each and every one of you for your hard work and dedication. We look forward to working with all of you in 2016 to make a difference in the lives of our patients throughout all the New York City communities we serve.
