Announcing New Fellowships at NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island

Coney Island Hospital and The New York Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine Educational Consortium (NYCOMEC) are pleased to announce that the American Osteopathic Association has approved the following five new Internal Medicine Fellowships at NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island:

Cardiology Fellowship Program Director: George Juang, M.D. Approved for nine positions Endocrinology Fellowship Program Director: Silvia Bercovici, M.D. Approved for four positions Gastroenterology Fellowship Program Director: Michael Bernstein, M.D. Approved for six positions Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program Director: Rose Recco, M.D. Approved for four positions Nephrology Fellowship Program Director: Adel El-Hennawy, M.D. Approved for four positions

PAGNY Dr. Eleonora Akker, who serves as the Director of Medical Education as well as the program director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program, spearheaded this initiative. “I am pleased to announce an expansion of post-graduate medical education training at NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island,” stated Dr. Akker.

In addition to existing Internal Medicine and Traditional Rotating Internship programs, NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island received approvals from American Osteopathic Association for the following residencies and fellowships: Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics residencies- recruited first classes for academic year 2015-2016; Obstetrics and Gynecology residency- will recruit for July 2016; Fellowships in Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology and Endocrinology will be recruiting for July 2016. This expansion will add over 60 trainees and greatly contribute to the quality of patient care at CIH. “I would like to wish all program participants great success!”

HHC Pat Morasetis, Assistant Director of Internal Medicine adds, “This is a first time for NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island where we are the parent institute for fellowship programs with no affiliation except for Cardiology.” Following the recent approvals the department is actively recruiting fellows.
