We are pleased to announce that Edward E. Conway Jr., M.D., M.S., FAAP, FCCM, has been appointed Chairman, Pediatric Services for NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi/North Central Bronx, effective March 1, 2021.

Dr. Conway currently serves as Chief of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) and Vice-Chairman of the Lewis M. Fraad Department of Pediatrics at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi. In this expanded leadership role, Dr. Conway will oversee the day to day operations of pediatric services at both the Jacobi and NCB campuses, including the department’s quality of care and patient safety, coordination of clinical care and physician engagement.

Dr. Conway, a native of Brooklyn, NY received his BS at Manhattan College and a Master’s in Cell Biology with Honors at Fordham University. He received his M.D. degree at the SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. He completed his internship, residency, chief residency, and pediatric critical care fellowship training at the combined pediatrics program at Montefiore Medical Center and Jacobi Hospital. During his training he was the recipient of the Leon M. Davidoff Certificate of Distinction for the teaching of medical students and was a Lewis M. Fraad Scholar in Child Health.

Prior to returning to Jacobi, Dr. Conway served as the Director of the Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery, the first exclusive Pediatric Neurosurgery ICU program in NY and one of the first in the U.S., at the former Beth Israel Medical Center North Division. He served as Chairman of the Milton and Bernice Stern Department of Pediatrics and the Pediatrics Department at St. Luke’s Hospital/Roosevelt Medical Center.

Dr. Conway is very involved in teaching the next generation of clinicians, including medical students, residents, fellows, nurses, and nurse practitioners. He is a Professor of Pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and has authored over 180 scientific papers, book chapters and abstracts on a myriad of pediatric topics involving critically ill infants and children.

Dr. Conway is the past Chairman of the Executive Committee on Critical Care for the American Academy of Pediatrics and former Chairperson of the Pediatric Section for the Society of Critical Care Medicine. He just completed his term as Chancellor of the Board of Regents for the American College of Critical Care Medicine. He is a senior member of the NYCDOH Pediatric Disaster Preparedness Committee and NYSDOH Emergency Medicine Services for Children Committee. He has served as an advisor to the NYSDOH Advisory Board and Greater New York Hospital Association for Pediatric Sepsis.

Dr. Conway’s work has earned him numerous accolades, most recently he was the recipient of the 2020 American Academy of Pediatrics Distinguished Career Award in Pediatric Critical Care and he just received an award for distinguished service and leadership from the Council of the Society of Critical Care Medicine on February 5th, 2021.
