Physician Leadership Development Program

PAGNY and the PAGNY Health and Research Foundation provides leadership development training to engage current physicians who wish to take on additional responsibilities or implement new initiatives. Over the last three years, approximately 10% of PAGNY’s full-time physicians have been nominated by current hospital leadership and gone through the intensive leadership training program. We believe that creative and responsive leadership is the glue that keeps transforming organizations.

WHAT WE DO

Each year, PAGNY provide leadership development training to two cohorts of between 20-25 emerging physician leaders from across seven of New York City’s public hospitals and a number of their affiliated clinics. We celebrate their strengths and round out their skill sets in order to make them leaders of hospital-wide collaborations and communities of change agents.

The six-month program brings together emerging leaders across the NYC public hospital system. The curriculum is based on the unique needs of the member hospital medical staff as identified by their respective Chief Medical Officers and PAGNY leadership and includes areas such as:

  • Self-awareness
  • Communication skills
  • Project scoping and development skills
  • Conflict resolution
  • Collaborative leadership
  • Personal branding
  • Action learning project

Participants may claim up to 30 continuing medical education credits.

PROGRAM CHANGES DUE TO COVID-19

We have changed our processes and schedule to be able to continue to serve our medical staff community and to provide a safe learning environment. Sessions are held virtually until further notice.

PAGNY’s EMERGING LEADERS

PAGNY’s emerging leaders come from medical and dental specialties. Physicians and dentists are either newly appointed chiefs of service, or physicians and dentists who are considered by their leaders as high potentials. They bring a wide variety of clinical and life experiences that adds to the richness of our program. Emerging leaders build internal networks with physicians from their home-based hospitals and across PAGNY affiliated hospitals and/or clinics. Each emerging leader is selected with support from the facility’s Chief Medical Officers.
