PHRF Research Projects
The PAGNY Health & Research Foundation (PHRF) raises funds and provides other research and grant seeking assistance to support pioneering population health research by PAGNY physicians and programming benefitting uninsured and underinsured New Yorkers. PHRF also manages these grants on behalf of the principal investigator.
Research projects currently underway include:
- Novel Immunotherapies in Malignant Melanoma: Over the next two years, the Foundation will be overseeing a project to study novel immunotherapies in malignant melanoma and providing mentorship to Fellows integrating molecular diagnostic methodologies into their practices for the improvement of patient care. This program is part of the New York State Department of Health’s Empire Clinical Research Investigator Program.
- Teen Options to Prevent Pregnancy: This replication study aims to measure the result of offering personalized motivational training by nurse-educators to empower teen moms to undertake family planning with the goal of reducing further teen pregnancies.
- Controlling Pediatric Asthma Program: This project studies the reduction in preventable, asthma-related emergency department visits by promoting asthma-awareness and developing patient-education materials for a low-literacy population in Harlem.
- Barbershop Health Coalition: This project is working to reduce HIV/AIDS transmission by transforming formerly-incarcerated barbers into HIV-prevention “ambassadors” in their own barbershops to educate their communities.
These projects were made possible by our generous funders at Arnold Ventures, the New York State Health Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the TD Charitable Foundation.
