Physician Assistant - Pediatric Surgery

NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County operates a world-renowned Level 1 Trauma Center, one of only three in the borough, which serves 2.6 million residents of Brooklyn and Staten Island.  NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County maintains close relationships with NYC Health + Hospitals’ diagnostic, post-acute, and long-term care centers. The hospital is academically affiliated with SUNY Downstate Medical Center.

 

Responsibilities:

The Physician Assistant in pediatric surgery  works under the direction of the pediatric surgeon as well as the Chief of Surgery and performs the following duties, but not limited to:

  1. Completes pre-operative work up to and  including physical examination and recording health history.
  2. Orders appropriate laboratory and radiography tests
  3. Participates in daily rounds, writes prescriptions, writes progress notes, conducts patient education, communicates with the patient, and should take part in scheduling the patient for surgical procedures
  4. Takes part in active discharge planning 
  5. Takes an active role  in QA and performance improvement projects
  6. Plays an active role in the preparation of research activities  and participates in the preparation of  The American College of  Pediatric Surgery accreditation process
  7. Helps with other surgical, clinical and administrative aspects of patients  care 

Qualifications:

  • New York State Physician Assistant License
  • NCCPA board certification or board eligible
  • Must have Pediatric experience
  • DEA prescribing license
  • ACLS life support certification or eligible to obtain
  • Masters Degree preferred
