NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx handle more than 156,000 outpatient visits, more than 50,000 emergency room visits and more than 7,500 admissions annually in the 232-bed facility. The hospital maintains an academic affiliation with the James J. Peters VA Medical Center.
Responsibilities
To assist dentist with direct patient care and other related responsibilities.
Functions/Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge of the Privacy and Security rules outlined in the HIPAA guidelines
- Successfully completes the mandatory three day HHC orientation
- Adheres and conforms to all hospital and departmental guidelines, policies and procedures
- Maintain appropriate stock of dental supplies in assigned operatories
- Set-up and clean up all dental operatories before and after treatment
- Prepares patients for examination and treatment
- Chair-side assisting of dentists
- Takes dental radiographs-intra and extra oral and 3D imaging
- Cleans instruments to be sterilized and maintains clinic equipment in good hygienic condition
- Cleans and organizes dental laboratory in dental clinic as needed
- Maintains an up to date clinic laboratory log
- Mixes amalgams, composites, cements, impression materials and other materials
- Mix and pour stone into dental impressions
- Requests supplies for the clinic
- Maintains clean and orderly work environment
- Performs other related dental assistant duties as required or as determined by the Chief of Service or his/her designee
- Dental assist in the Operating Room, if necessary
- Maintain all current mandated training, including, but not limited to, fire/safety, infection control, Multistar training, basic life support
- Identifies problems and communicates to immediate supervisor; offers appropriate solutions
- Demonstrates complete working knowledge of all dental equipment within the department
- Participates in quality control procedures and quality assurance
- Prepares daily work log as required
- Adheres to the departmental attendance policy
- Participates in identified professional organizations, external meetings and seminars, and film critique in-service activities as required to maintain professional acumen
- Assists in departmental orientation and training of new hires and students
- All other duties as required by the department
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Graduate of an accredited Dental Assistant program or at least one year of full-time satisfactory experience as a Dental Assistant performing the duties described above
- Dental Assistant Certification preferred
- Good written and oral communication
- Proof of Covid-19 vaccination is required prior to hire
